Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Board of Directors

Jake Jakel

Jake Jakel joined Rocky Mountain Youth Sports in 2008 and currently sits on the Board of Directors as well as being an active coach of RMYS/Fever teams within the organization. 

Before joining RMYS, Jake began his coaching career with the City of Fort Collins in Parks and Rec while a student at CSU in 1996.  Shortly after that he discovered a passion for coaching youth basketball.  He started coaching higher level competitive teams from Jr Impalas, Jr Lambkins, Jr Lobos, various club teams, High school summer teams, and at several camps. 

Jake is committed to coaching with a positive attitude, a focus on fundamentals and coaching to understanding why we do what we do.  Jake's leadership and basketball training involve several courses around footwork fundamentals taught by the Denver Nugget's coaching staff.  He is constantly learning and adapting.  Professional leadership courses consist of crucial conversation, crucial confrontations, self leadership, and situational leadership.  

Jake's business career began after graduating from Colorado State University with Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Information Systems.    As a resident of Fort Collins since 1994, Jake has worked as Systems Engineer and is currently in a leadership position as and IT operations Manager.

Steve Dortch

Steve joined Rocky Mountain Youth Sports in 2012 as a coach.  In 2015, Steve accepted a position on the Board of Directors and volunteered as a program director.   Steve was appointed Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Fever Basketball (RMYS) on August 1, 2016.

Steve's coaching resume includes coaching the girls JV and Varsity teams  at Battle Mountain High School and the boys 7th and 8th grade teams at The Vail Academy.  Steve led the TVA Titans to their first ever county championship in 2007-08.  He has coached for the City of Fort Collins, High Country Hoops, and Birmingham YMCA as well and has served on the staff of several camps and clinics.

Steve is licensed by the USA Basketball Youth Development Program and holds a certification by the Positive Coaching Alliance as a Level 2 Double-Goal Coach.  Steve is committed to coaching with a positive attitude and reinforcing the values of hard work, consistent effort, respect for the game, and being a great teammate.  He is passionate about introducing new athletes to the game of basketball and helping develop young athletes into competitive players and responsible young men and women.

Steve's has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Birmingham-Southern College with dual majors in Business Administration and History.  He has a Master of Business Administration degree from Colorado State University as well.

A resident of Colorado for over 16 years, Steve's work experience includes over 10 years managing operations for two highly successful  SaaS companies.
