After co-founding and leading Rocky Mountain Youth Sports (RMYS) and Rocky Mountain Fever for the the last eight years, Dorsi Smith has decided to step down as Executive Director and transition into a role as a seasonal volunteer starting in August, 2016. Under Dorsi's leadership, Fever has become one of the leading club basketball programs in Colorado. She has enjoyed forming many relationships and contributing to the growth of youth basketball in northern Colorado. She credits the success of RMYS and Rocky Mountain Fever to all of the great players, families and coaches with whom she has worked over the last eight years.
Rocky Mountain Fever Basketball would like to thank Dorsi Smith for her commitment and dedication to the organization and the time and resources she has contributed to the game of basketball and to our community. Her impact and tireless service to the basketball community will be lasting. Both founders, Dorsi and Shannon Lopez, will continue as volunteer advisors to the Rocky Mountain Fever Board of Directors.
Rocky Mountain Fever is excited to announce the appointment of Steve Dortch as the new Executive Director. Steve has been with the Fever since 2012 as a coach, and more recently as a volunteer program director, and member of the board of directors.
Prior to coming to Fever, Steve coached at Battle Mountain High School and The Vail Academy. He has coached for the Birmingham YMCA, High Country Hoops, and City of Fort Collins as well. Steve is a PCA Level 2 certified coach and has been licensed by the USA Basketball Youth Development Program. His passion is player development and attracting new players to the game of basketball.
Steve's goals as Executive Director include strengthening the Fever brand throughout northern Colorado and southern Wyoming, building a strong network of sponsors and supporters in our community, expanding the number of teams and the quality of programs offered by Rocky Mountain Fever, and helping promote the game of basketball by encouraging more kids in Fort Collins and surrounding communities to play basketball at both recreational and competitive levels.
In addition to the appointment of Steve Dortch to the executive director position, Michael McCurnin and Jake Jakel have been selected to join the board of directors. The newly appointed leadership of Rocky Mountain Fever Basketball will act as ambassadors for the game of basketball and promote the Fever mission to support the physical and emotional growth of young athletes in our community.
Jake is a long-time youth basketball coach having coached many different teams for over 10 years. Michael has coached Fever teams for over two years and has been instrumental in the growth of the organization over the last year. Learn more about our new Board Members on our
